Clearlight Acne Treatment to Clear Up Your Skin

Acne is a common skin condition that has plagued adolescents and adults with inflamed red pustules that often defy all traditional therapies. Over the counter gels, lotions and toners can help as can prescription medications given to you by your doctor. But what happens when all of these treatments are not able to clear up your acne? At this point you may ask your dermatologist about the option of a new, cutting edge procedure called Clearlight acne treatment.

This New Acne Treatment Option

Clearlight acne treatment utilizes a blue violet light. When this light is aimed at your blemishes it activates porphyrins which are special compounds that combat bacteria.  The porphyrins initiate a chemical reaction within your blemished skin which in turn creates peroxide, a component that contributes to the destruction of the bacteria which cause acne lesions.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of Clearlight acne treatment for patients with mild to moderate inflammatory acne. Clearlight acne treatment is not approved for more serious blemishes such as cystic acne.

The Basic Treatment Procedure

A session of Clearlight acne treatment typically lasts about 25 – 30 minutes during which you may feel a slight tingly warm sensation at the treatment site. This is one of the safest remedies for acne with no known side effects. The Clearlight treatment targets the acne lesions themselves and does damage the surrounding skin.

After the first two or three Clearlight acne treatments you may experience some noticeable changes but you need to be patient. Book your dermatologist appointments at least 48 hours or more apart.  And keep in mind that this treatment works for up to 90% of people but it will take some time. Expect at least two to three treatments – before you recognize any changes.

Other Treatment Facts

While Clearlight acne treatment may improve the red inflamed pustules, it will not clear up any blackheads or whiteheads so you still must use a topical treatment for them. Still, the Clearlight acne treatment is a tremendous advancement in clearing acne and is a terrific course to pursue in your quest for blemish-free skin.

Additional Thoughts

Up to 20% of the people who have tried Clearlight treatments were not successfully cleared of their acne lesions as they may have had photo-resistant bacteria. In addition, if you experience success with the Clearlight acne treatment, please note that these results may not always permanent. However, you can have several treatments a week, month or longer, depending on your skin needs.
